my favourite thing is probably the scientific name of the Grizzly bear.

It’s Ursus arctos horribilis. “ursus” meaning bear in Latin and “arctos”, bear in Greek.

so essentially a grizzly is a “horrible bear bear.”

The Eurasian Brown Bear is Ursus arctos arctos

So literally “Bear Bear Bear”. The most bear a bear can be.

So bear. Much roar. Wow.

Also! The Arctic Circle is named for the bears, not the other way ‘round. It’s the Circle With Bears In, and the Antarctic is the Circle (and continent) Away From Bears.

I think we should all start referring to things by their proximity to bears.

The UnBearable Lightness of Being. Bear him to the battlements. The Bearfoot Contessa. Bearing one’s feelings. A Bearback rider. The Bear Naked Ladies. A Bearuline convent. Bearula Vernon, Andress and Le Guin. The Arctus de Triomphe. The arctus of a tangent. Arctus welding. (Hmmm…maybe not.)

Also, am I imagining it or does the bear in the picture (who may or may not be in the Bärengraben in Bern, Switzerland) have a faintly self-satisfied look-how-well-I-can-balance smirk on its muzzle?
